Funeral of General Johan Baptiste von Taxis (1645)
Funeral procession of Johan Baptiste de Taxis in Cologne; the coffin is being carried out of the Bishop's Palace in the foreground on the left, preceded by a horse in drapery and a standard-bearer, in a long serpentine procession on the square in front of the palace. An interesting feature of the picture is that the groups accompanying the procession are named. So are the Cellites, the predecessors of the Alexian Brothers, in their distinctive long cloaks - their group is highlighted in image 2.
